Movement of Golgi stacks in BY-2 cells:

A more detailed analysis of Golgi stack movements can be found in our publication.

Untreated cell, video playback 2x accelerated. Movement appears to distributed randomly within the cortical cytoplasm.

Untreated cell, playback 2-fold accelerated. A high level of movement can be seen in the tranvacuolar strands that connect the nuclear region to the cortical cytplasm. Note that individual strands are "one-way streets".

Cell treated with 40 µM cytochalasin D to disrupt actin filaments, playback 2-fold accelerated. Movement of Golgi stacks cannot be observed, indicating that intact actin filaments are required for this movement.

Cell treated with 3.3 µM nocodazole to disrupt microtubules, playback 2-fold accelerated. No apparent effect on Golgi stack movement after disruption of mitcrotubules.
